My heartbeat stopped
The world flew by so fast
I could have dropped
But there I stood, steadfast.

What kind of drum
Was beating in my ear
That cast a strum
Of notes that found my fear

When all around
The life I held so dear
Fell to the ground
As silent as a tear.
